Bangladesh All-Rounder Shakib Al Hasan Named in FIR For Alleged Involvement in Murder: Report
The former MP and veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named along with several others in an FIR report accusing him for being involved in murder.

The experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan finds himself in deep waters once again. This time, the cricket veteran and the former Member of Parliament of the Awami League has been name-dropped along with several others for allegedly being involved in a murder that took place during the protests within Bangladesh.

According to the report by ESPNCricinfo, the case involves the death of a garment worker, Mohammed Rubel who was involved in the protest that took place at Ring Road in Adabor on August 5. The FIR Report was filed by the victim’s father, Mohammed Rubel.

The report quoted by The Daily Star, “the case statement mentions that the complainant alleged that some of the accused as per instruction directly or indirectly from some others opened fire while hundreds of students including Rubel”.

The report also added that Rubel was wounded in the firing and subsequently passed away two days later in a hospital.

ESPNCricinfo’s report claims that the veteran all-rounder was not in the country on August 5 or when the protests took place, resulting in the resignation of Hasina as the Prime Minister of the Country. It is suggested that he was in Canada at the time, taking part in the Global T20 Canada League where he led the Bangla Tigers Mississauga in Brampton. Before that, he was also in the United States of America where he took part in Major League Cricket as well.

After the Awami League were ousted from the Bangladesh government, notable changes took place in the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The former captain, Faruque Ahmed took charge as the President of the national cricket body.

Currently, Shakib is on national duty and Bangladesh are taking on Pakistan in the first Test taking place in Rawalpindi. It is yet to be seen whether Shakib will be involved in the rest of the series or whether he would be part of the side in their tour to India where they take part in a two-match Test series followed by a 3-match T20I series.
