Another Ranji Trophy match, another day curtailed due to bad light. Play duration shortened due to bad light, fog, and everything that impairs visibility has been a norm in northern India this season.
In this episode, the fixture was between Delhi and Baroda at the Airforce Complex Ground in Delhi’s Palam area. The second day witnessed a loss in overs in the final session because of bad light. Moreover, Baroda opener Jyotsnil Singh made sure that he frustrated the Delhi bowlers thoroughly.
The right-handed batter has been in great touch in this game as he did the bulk scoring for his side and notched up a fine double ton on the second day. At the end of the day’s play, Baroda’s score read 400/5 and Jyotsnil went back unbeaten on 215.
Jyotsnil confirmed to News 18 CricketNext after the day’s play that their plan in this game is to put up a big total on the board.
“The team’s approach was to bat as long as we could. If we bat long, we will be able to put up a good total. It would be easy for us to get them out. The surface is a bit flat that’s why we need to put up runs on the board. The kind of situation we are in as far as the points table is concerned, even if we get three points on this kind of a track, it would be beneficial for us,” the 26-year-old explained.
The right-hander is delighted to finally convert the start that he got into a big score. He had to wait a bit to get to the milestone as the Delhi side tightened up the field when he was on 199.
Nevertheless, the right-hander’s stunning knock was decorated with nicely timed cover drives, flicks and punches.
“I’m feeling really good. I did get some good starts in the previous games but wasn’t able to convert them into a big one. So, it’s a great feeling to score a double ton,” a satisfied-looking batter said.
Baroda have had a great run in this season so far and are the table-toppers in Elite Group D with 20 points from four games. Having won three of their four matches, the team’s atmosphere is “very positive”.
“The team atmosphere is very good. We have been performing pretty well. Someone or the other has stepped up and performed for the side so, yes the atmosphere is very positive,” Jyotsnil added.
Jyotsnil’s family is from UP and it was his father’s passion for cricket that made them make a shift to Baroda. His elder brother Swapnil who has played cricket for Baroda is a part of the Uttarakhand team now.
“Actually, we are from Raebareli and my father is really fond of cricket. In fact, my elder brother Swapnil Singh is also a professional cricketer. So, for him, we shifted to Baroda when I was 1 or 2. I used to like playing the game from a very young age and then gradually it all happened,” he narrated his growth story.
