'Soft and Unnecessary Wickets Were the Downfall': Robin Uthappa on KKR's Poor Batting Performance Against CSK
Robin Uthappa believes the soft and unnecessary dismissals of KKR's batting unit led to their loss against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.

The Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their first defeat in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings beat them by seven wickets at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium. KKR’s former player, Robin Uthappa was not happy with the visitor’s batting performance which he believes was the key reason for their loss.

Uthappa who had spoken on JioCinema, was critical in particular of the skipper Shreyas Iyer who had batted for over 30 deliveries but was unable to capitalise on the start he had. He said,” “Shreyas Iyer batted through the innings but did not do much”.

The former Indian international believes that Ravindra Jadeja had caused a lot of trouble for the KKR batters and the loss of wickets regularly had affected the side’s chances of setting up a decent total to defend in the second innings.

He added,” “KKR let themselves down in today. 56 from the first 6 and then back-to-back wickets from Jadeja put them in trouble. Jaddu was the bowler that caused the issue.”

Angkrish Raghuvanshi who made a stellar fifty on his debut in the previous game, was unable to capitalise on the start he had as he looked to take on the bowlers and eventually was dismissed by Jadeja. However, Uthappa believes showing a bit more maturity will come through time as he is still very young in his IPL career.

He said, “You can’t fault Angkrish Raghuvanshi, he is a youngster, and he wanted to create an impact. He could have exercised a little more maturity and he will learn and grow”.

The former KKR opener believes that the manner of dismissals was not needed and eventually led to the loss. He concluded by saying, “But the wickets after that were pretty soft, unnecessary to be honest and that was the downfall for them”.

With the loss, KKR are sitting second in the points table and will have to reassess themselves as they go back to Eden Gardens where they take on the Lucknow Super Giants in their next game which takes place on April 14.
