After the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced the 15-man squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, discussions are rife about the possible combinations that Rohit Sharma would go with at the showpiece event. Picking up 11 players from the group of 15 will be a challenge and as the tournament commences, it will be interesting to how the Indian team management deals with it.
Meanwhile, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly suggested that Virat Kohli should join Rohit as his opening partner in a bid to end India’s decade-long draught of ICC titles. Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, the ex-BCCI chief opined that Kohli should open the innings to exploit his rich vein of form.
Kohli is enjoying a great run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). He currently holds the Orange Cap holder with 634 runs in 12 matches, averaging 70.44 and at an impressive strike rate of 153.51, which is significantly higher than his career rate of 134.31.

“Virat is playing exceptionally well. The way Kohli batted last night – 90 in quick time, you need to use him as an opener in the T20 World Cup. He should open, evidenced by his last few IPL innings which have been outstanding,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.
Ganguly said India have picked a balanced squad for the T20 World Cup which has the wherewithal to land the trophy after a gap of 17 years. India’s lone triumph in the T20 World Cup came in 2007, the inaugural edition held in South Africa.
“This is an excellent squad. I think they have picked the best possible squad. Apart from batting depth, bowling looks excellent. Bumrah is the best fast bowler in the world at the moment. We have experience in Kuldeep, Axar, Siraj. It’s an ideal combination we have this time,” said Ganguly.
India will begin their campaign against Ireland On June 5 in New York. The men in blue are placed in Group A, alongside Ireland, Canada, USA and arch-rivals Pakistan.
