There are students who get cold feet and jittery with just a simple classroom test in school and then there are those who face some of the toughest examinations like UPSC, GATE, JEE, and CAT with full confidence. Regardless of your level of confidence in taking an exam, it goes without saying that proper preparation is required. If you want to prove your mettle in competitive exams, there are some time-tested tips for preparation that you can incorporate into your study schedule.
These will not just raise your confidence but also help you strike a balance between study and much-needed mental rest while preparing for the exams. These tips are also applicable for CBSE, ICSE and many of the state board exams that are just around the corner.
To top any exam, it is necessary to make some changes in yourself. You will have to live by the mantra: smart work more than hard work.
1- Start with the syllabus– Whatever exam you are going to appear in, start with understanding the syllabus, exam pattern and marking scheme. With this, you will know what and how you have to study.
2- Understand the need for time management– Be it a board exam NEET or UPSC exam, start your preparation with time management. Make a timetable for yourself and follow it with complete honesty.
3- Change the way of studying– Only hard work is not important for preparing for any exam. Now you will have to switch towards smart work. Instead of cramming huge books, study from a few selected books. Also, definitely attempt previous years’ papers and mock tests.
4- Learn lessons from mistakes– To become a topper, one needs to learn from one’s mistakes. Avoid repeating the mistakes you have made in previous exams or mock tests. While preparing for any exam, if there is any doubt in any topic then clear it.
