A recent examination aimed at determining the eligibility for research scholarships at Sarthi, Barthi, and Mahajyoti institutes has sparked controversy not just in Pune but across the state as reported by Pune Pulse. The qualifying exam conducted across various divisions including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, Nagpur, and Pune, raised concerns among students as it was found that the question paper was a direct replica of the SET (State Eligibility Test) 2019 question paper.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) was given the task of overseeing the test’s transparent and efficient administration. Similarly, the responsibility for crafting this question paper lies with the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH-SET) Department of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
3,473 PhD candidates took the test for 200 seats, including 1,329 Sarathi, 1,383 Mahajyoti students, and 761 Barti students. The dissatisfaction among the students who participated in the exam, was palpable as they expressed their displeasure at the blatant “copy-paste” approach.
Upon examination of the question paper, it became evident that not only the content but also the sequence of questions closely mirrored the SET-2019 paper. This revelation prompted students to voice their concerns, demanding a reevaluation of the examination system. Some students argue that instead of allocating funds for exams, the government should channel resources towards providing fellowships directly to registered students.
As a result, following the examination, a formal complaint was filed with the authorities of Sarthi, Barti, and Mahajyoti. Students have demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the situation, calling for accountability and transparency. They have asked the government to take firm action against those who are to blame for the current situation.
Several allegations have surfaced suggesting that the question papers were not properly sealed when they were handed out in the test rooms, reported the Pune Mirror. This sequence of events has caused student resentment about the SPPU’s integrity, while also throwing questions on the methods of Mahajyoti, Sarthi, and Barti.
