Holidays for Sankranti in 2024 have been announced by the Telangana Schools. The schools across the state get a six-day break, stretching from January 12 to January 17, 2024. The schools of Telangana officially declared via the Telangana School Holiday 2024 calendar to observe the festivities for Sankranti, a Hindu festival that marks the onset of the harvest season and is celebrated with much pomp and enthusiasm across the country. An official notice will be distributed ahead of the closure of schools. Students and parents are advised to contact the respective schools for confirmations on the dates.
As per the media reports, the intermediate students from the schools in Telangana will enjoy their Sankranti break from January 13 to January 16, with classes resuming in junior colleges on January 17. However, TS Inter final exams will be held from January 22 to January 29.
Candidates must also note that schools for all classes will remain closed in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana state. According to the reports, Sankranti holidays do not apply to missionary schools. The director of school education issued the Telangana academic calendar, declaring Dussehra, summer vacation, and other holidays.
After the Sankranti holidays, Formative Assessment (FA 4) is scheduled to be held for classes 1 to 10 from January 29 to February 29, 2024. In addition to that, the summative assessment (SA 2) is set to be held from April 8 to April 18, 2024, for classes 1 to 9.
Notably, the Telangana government has included the Sankranti and Bhogi holidays on the general holiday list. Students should note that after the Sankranti vacation, there are two more holidays on the list. The first one is an optional holiday on January 25 for Hazrath Ali’s birthday, and the second is on January 26, which is a general holiday for Republic Day.
Celebrated on January 14th or 15th of every year, Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival that marks the beginning of the harvest season in India and the culmination of the winter season. It signifies the onset of longer days, and the festival is observed with various regional customs and traditions worldwide.
On this occasion, people take sacred baths in holy rivers, exchange sesame and jaggery sweets, fly kites, and offer prayers to the sun god. Showcasing the rich diversity of the country’s cultural heritage, this festival is celebrated in different ways in regions of India with unique names.
