London: Chelsea have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Germany forward Andre Schurrle from the Bundesliga club.
Chelsea said in a statement on their website Thursday that Schurrle must now complete personal terms and pass a medical.
The 22-year-old forward, who has been a long-time target of Chelsea, is set to become Jose Mourinho's first signing since the Portuguese coach returned to the Premier League club for a second spell in charge.
Earlier, Leverkusen signed South Korean forward Son Heung-min from Hamburg SV. The 20-year-old Son, who was outstanding last season, signed a five year deal with Leverkusen, paving the way for Schurrle's much-expected transfer to Chelsea.
"We made it clear from the start that a transfer of Schurrle to Chelsea would only happen if an adequate sporting alternative was possible," said club boss Wolfgang Holzhaeuser.
"This alternative was now taken under contract with Son Heung-Min and so there is nothing blocking Andre Schurrle's transfer from our side."
