Manchester: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that full-back Patrice Evra has informed him that he wants to pursue his case of alleged racism against Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

Speaking after their 1-1 draw at Anfield, the Red Devils' defender told French media that the Kop favourite had abused him during the match, and he had subsequently reported it to match referee Andrew Marriner.

Following the revelations, which first broke on Saturday evening, the Uruguayan striker has categorically denied Evra claims, but his manager has revealed that his player intends to take the matter further.

"I spoke to Patrice on Monday. He is adamant he wants to follow it on," Sir Alex told reporters.

"It doesn't happen in England. There are very few examples of that," he continued. "Since I have come down we have had some fantastic players at Manchester United who have been black, fantastic players.

"It is not an issue for the game itself but there is an odd example. Maybe this is what surprised Patrice Evra. He thought he was slighted on Saturday."

"It is not something we would want to level against Liverpool and it is not against Liverpool. Obviously Patrice feels very aggrieved at what was said to him.

"It rests in the hands of the FA now."

But the Manchester United boss reserved special praise for both sets of supporters, after urging them in the build-up to match to refrain from chanting about the Hillsborough and Munich disasters - which has plagued previous encounters.

"Saturday was terrific. Both sets of fans were good," he continued. "There was not any of that silly chanting we have had in previous years. Both sets of fans deserve praise for that"
