New Delhi: FC Goa on Wednesday named India cricketer Virat Kohli as its new co-owner and brand ambassador for the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) that will be held Oct 12-Dec 20.
"I am very excited to be a part of this franchise in what definitely looks like a breakthrough development for football as a sport in India. FC Goa is going to be very competitive in the upcoming ISL. And the expertise and experience of stalwarts like Zico and Robert Pires will further strengthen the formidable team," Kohli said in a statement.
FC Goa has already roped in Brazilian legend Zico as their head coach.
"There is a huge responsibility placed on my shoulders and I will do justice to it. I know expectations are high. I am motivated to take on this role of coach to FC Goa. Thank you for a wonderful welcome to India," Zico said of his move to the country.
Former France international Robert Pires, who has been signed as a 'marquee' player of the side also spoke about his enthusiasm for the tournament.
"I'm excited to play for FC Goa at the inaugural season of ISL. I look forward to my time in Goa and India and to contribute positively to the development of football in the country," Pires said.
FC Goa will kick off the first game of ISL against Chennaiyin FC at home Oct 16.
