Messi had been sidelined since Aug. 31 when he hurt a right leg muscle during Barcelona's 1-0 win at Villarreal. He played the entire game but Barcelona said afterward he had sustained an injury.
He missed Argentina's 4-2 win over Germany in a friendly during the international break.
The 27-year-old Messi had a series of muscle injuries in 2013 after going several seasons without serious problems.
