Manchester City's Rodri Creates Premier League History in 3-1 Manchester Derby Win
Rodri has now stayed undefeated in 59 consecutive matches across competitions, marking the longest unbeaten streak by a player while representing a Premier League team.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. In the case of Rodri, both of them are inevitable. The Manchester City midfielder scripted history after his team secured a 3-1 triumph over Manchester United in the Premier League last night.

Following the derby win at the Etihad Stadium, Rodri has now stayed undefeated in 59 consecutive matches across competitions. It is the longest unbeaten streak by a player while representing a Premier League team.

Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho held the previous record for as long as 16 years. He played for the London-based club in 58 matches between November 2006 and February 2008 without enduring a loss.

Rodri has been a crucial component of Pep Guardiola’s side during his ongoing five-year spell with Manchester City. The Spanish midfielder has already won a total of 10 trophies for the citizens. He was the one who netted the winner against Inter Milan in the Champions League final last season, helping his side claim the coveted title and the treble for the first time in their club’s history.

Rodri once again proved his mettle last night, as he capitalised off a Sofyan Amrabat error in United’s final third, allowing the Spaniard to just tap the ball into the box from where the looming Haaland calmly finessed one around Andre Onana onto the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 3-1 and drive the final nail in the coffin.

Even barring last night, Rodri has been in sublime form throughout this season for City. He has made 34 appearances across competitions, scoring seven goals and providing as many assists.

The Spaniard continues to play a pivotal role in Guardiola’s side. His defensive dominance in the midfield couple with his discipline has allowed the likes of Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne to play to their best strengths freely without pressure.

With the Spaniard in the playing eleven, Manchester City previously lost a game in February last year when Tottenham Hotspur beat them 1-0 in the domestic league. Since then, nearly 13 months have passed and Rodri has time and again demonstrated his significance in the heart of the midfield.
