Manchester United Could See Four Defenders Depart as Erik Ten Hag Eyes Defensive Rejig - Report
Manchester United could have a defensive rejig with four players close to seeing their exit from the club as Erik Ten Hag eyes reinforcements.

Manchester United could see up to four defenders exit from the club in the summer as Erik Ten Hag eyes a defensive rejig. The club has not been able to replicate its form from the previous season and as the Jim Ratcliffe regime gets underway.

According to ESPN reports, the club are willing to see offers for the defensive duo of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to raise money.  The other two who could leave the club are Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans who’s contracts will expire in the coming summer.

It is yet to be seen if the pair of Varane and Evans’ contracts could be renewed with the club as the manager wants to change up his back line. Some of the players that have been identified by the club include Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Jean-Clair Todibo.

Branthwaite has been a target for United for quite some time as he continues to impress with the Toffees under Sean Dyche. Todibo who was part of Barcelona’s infamous La Masia, made the move to Nice, which is also owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and  De Ligt has had a history with the current United manager during their time at Ajax where they managed to make it to the Champions League finals in the 2018-2019 finals.

Is Manchester United in for Vinicius Jr? 

United will also have to pay the big bucks if they are to land an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of the Brazillian Vinicius Jr.

The Catalan outlet Sport reported that the Red Devils could spend up to €150m to land the Brazillian star. However, ESPN Brazil had also reported that there has not been any contact regarding the transfer and suggested that it would take €250m if Real Madrid were to be open to his exit.

The ball is in Real Madrid’s court with the club also aiming to sign the French superstar, Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman has been primarily utilised in the left-wing position which could see the Brazillian star being sacrificed.

Vinicius Jr however, has gone on to establish himself as one of the best wingers in the world after his stellar season in the 2021-2022 season where the club managed to win the Champions League, forming a lethal partnership with Karim Benzema and scoring 22 goals and 20 assists in the season.
