New Delhi: Villarreal and former Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme has returned to his native Argentina for the rest of the season after signing for Boca Juniors on loan.

The 28-year-old made his name at Boca before moving to Barcelona in July 2002.

He scored three goals in 29 appearances for the Catalan giants before signing for Villarreal, initially on loan, in September 2003.

Riquelme played a central role in the team's success and their run to the semi-finals of last season's Champions League as well.

After landing in Buenos Aires, Riquelme thanked God for returning to Boca Juniors.

"The fact that I have problems with Villarreal can't be resolved but thank God, I'm here today and I must think about Boca not about Villarreal and try to play as well as possible and on the 30 June, I really want to be celebrating a cup triumph," Riquelme said.
