New Delhi: Cristiano Ronaldo’s petulant reaction on being substituted on Sunday against Manchester City hasn’t gone well with the club’s global ambassador and legend Bryan Robson as he stated that it was a ‘wrong reaction’ from the World Player of the Year.
Sir Alex Ferguson decided to replace Ronaldo with Paul Scholes around the hour mark at Old Trafford but the winger showed his displeasure and kept displaying unhappy poses for the camera for the rest of the game.
Speaking to Goal.com, Bryan Robson said, “It’s not right for players to react to their manager’s decision. Players do respond differently but they have to respect the decision of the manager, especially when it comes from someone like Sir Alex Ferguson.
“He knows what’s right for the players, to ensure that the player stays fresh and doesn’t get injured ahead of the next clash. I feel Ronaldo’s reaction was wrong and it sent a wrong lesson to the kids watching the game around the world,” he said
Following the 2-0 victory when Sir Alex Ferguson was asked to comment on Ronaldo’s antics, he said, “He wanted to stay on, he’s in great form but I have to look at the big picture. He had an incredible performance on Tuesday at Arsenal, he ran his socks off.”
