What does the calendar emoji mean?
Calendar emojis (????????????️) are used to indicate upcoming events. Like traditional calendars, most people use the various calendar emojis (????????????️) to point out scheduled events, appointments, or upcoming plans. Here are some examples of how these emojis are used: “Don’t forget our meeting tomorrow! ????” “My birthday is next week ???? Let’s plan something fun!” “My doctor’s appointment is today ???? Wish me luck!” The ???? is officially called the “calendar” emoji. ???? is the “tear-off calendar” emoji, and ????️ is the “spiral calendar” emoji.
Why is the date July 17th?
July 17 is a reference to when iCal for Mac premiered in 2002. Apple chose to display the date of July 17th on the calendar emoji because that’s the date iCal, the original calendar app for Mac, premiered at the 2002 MacWorld Expo. In 2014, July 17 was declared World Emoji Day, so other platforms and devices adopted the date for their calendar emojis, as well. Some apps still use other dates on their calendar emojis. For example, WhatsApp uses February 24th to celebrate the incorporation of WhatsApp in 2009. Facebook uses May 14th, the birthday of founder Mark Zuckerberg.
