How to Change Your New Tab Page in Safari

Open Safari. Click the Safari app icon, which resembles a blue compass, in your Mac's Dock.

Click Safari. It's a menu item in the top-left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.

Click Preferences…. You'll find this option in the middle of the drop-down menu. Doing so opens the Safari Preferences window.

Click the General tab. It's the light switch-shaped icon in the top-left corner of the Safari Preferences window.

Click the "New tabs open with" drop-down box. This option is near the top of the window. Clicking it prompts a drop-down menu.

Select a new tab option. Click one of the following options in the drop-down menu: Favorites - New tabs will open to a list of your favorite pages. Homepage - New tabs will open to your homepage as determined by the "Homepage" text field below the "New tabs open with" drop-down box. Empty Page - New tabs will open to a completely blank page. Same Page - New tabs will replicate the page from which they are opened (for example, if you open a new tab while using Facebook, the new tab will also open to Facebook).

Change your homepage if needed. If you selected the Homepage option for your new tab preferences, you may want to change your homepage to reflect whatever site you want to see when you open a new tab: Select the current address in the "Homepage" text box. Type in your preferred home page address (e.g., https://www.wikihow.com/) Press ⏎ Return
