Makeup Tips for the Animal Face Types

Puppy: Complement your eyes with puppy eyeliner Puppy eyeliner is a cute makeup look that flatters downturned eyes, giving you an even sweeter and friendlier appearance. Simply use an eyeliner pen or angled eyeliner brush to thinly line your upper lash line. When you get to the outer corner, keep following the contour of your eye and angle the liner down. Extend the line a bit past your eye, then connect the tip of the line to your outer corner and fill in the triangle shape. For a more dramatic look, line the outer corner of your lower lash line and connect the eyeliner to the downward wing you created on the upper lash line.

Cat: Elongate your eyes with winged eyeliner Creating a cat eye look is the perfect way to complement your long, upturned eyes and cat face type. To draw the winged liner, makeup artist Alana Schober suggests sketching the wing with a light eye shadow and angled brush. Start by thinly lining your upper lash line. When you get to the outer corner, angle the brush upward and in line with the end of your brow. Extend the shadow a bit past your eye, then create a triangle shape by connecting the line to your outer corner. Keep the wing short for a more subtle look, or extend it far past your eye for a bolder and more dramatic look. Once you have the wing how you like it, go over it with a liquid eyeliner, gel eyeliner, or eyeliner pen.

Fox: Emphasize your cheekbones and jaw with contour Since the fox face type is known for its sharp and chic appearance, highlight your sculpted face structure with contour. For a basic contour look, Schober suggests that you apply the contour in a banana shape, placing the product above the “top of your ear” and drawing it down so it “hugs underneath your cheekbone.” Then, use a fluffy brush to buff the product upwards toward your ear and blend it out.

Deer: Highlight your big eyes with a doe eye look To make your big, beautiful eyes look even wider and brighter, apply a neutral eyeshadow shade all over your lids and apply a bright highlight to the inner corners. Thinly line your upper and lower lash line with dark eyeliner. Then, line your lower water line with white or nude eyeliner to “give a more doll-like appearance,” says makeup artist Alicia D'Angelo. Finish off the doe-eyed look by curling your lashes and applying mascara to “immediately make the eyes appear larger.”

Rabbit: Use blush and lip gloss to highlight your cutesy look With your innocent look, pouty lips, and beautiful smile, emphasizing your cheeks and lips is the best way to flatter a rabbit face type. For a youthful look, Schober recommends placing your favorite blush shade on the apples of your cheeks and closer to your eyelid. Place a bit of blush on the bridge of your nose and chin, too. Then, brush a warm, rosy shade of lip gloss on your lips.

Snake: Emphasize your eyes with thick liner and arched brows The snake face type is bold and unique, so highlight your look with dramatic makeup. Line your upper lash line with a thick line of black or brown eyeliner. Or, rock a fun color like blue, orange, or green. To shape and fill your angled brows, D'Angelo recommends using a small-tipped eyebrow pencil to create short strokes as you follow your natural brow contour. Then, brush through your brows with a spoolie brush.

Turtle: Highlight your round features with blush and bronzer To emphasize the beautiful round features of the turtle face type, apply blush and bronzer. Apply a light bronzer just below your cheekbones and blend it upwards with a fluffy brush, says makeup artist Yuka Arora. Then, dab on your favorite blush above your cheekbones, keeping it closer to your temples or below your eyes, depending on the look you like.

Hamster: Complement your cheeks with blush The hamster face type has adorable and large cheeks, so highlight your best asset with some blush. While smiling, dab your favorite blush onto the apples of your cheeks. Then, sweep the blush upwards and onto your cheekbones.

Fish: Emphasize your features with a bold eye and lip With your high-fashion looks, the fish face type can handle striking makeup. For instance, go for a bold smokey eye, long wings, vibrant graphic liner, or colorful shadow. Pair your eye look with a complementary bold lip—whether that’s red, plum, or brown—to highlight your full lips.

Bird: Highlight your features with a light makeup look To complement your beautiful and delicate features, opt for a softer makeup look. For instance, apply a light neutral shadow on your lids, thinly line your upper lash line with a dark brown shadow, and coat your lashes with a volumizing mascara. Then, apply a muted pink blush that complements your skin tone and brush on a lip tint in a similar color.
