The Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman had met with the Indian fast-bowler, Mohammed Siraj at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. The Finance Minister congratulated the bowler and the rest of the Indian team for their performance in the World Cup 2023.

A post on X from the official handle of the Finance Minister shared that she had boosted the morale of the pacer after their loss against Australia in the World Cup finals which took place in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Finance Minister had noted that the entire team had played with great determination and grit throughout the tournament which brought immense pride and joy to the entire nation.
Siraj was one of the starting fast bowlers for India in the World Cup 2023 edition. The Indian side managed to go all the way to the finals having won all their games. But in the end, the Men in Blue came short after picking up a defeat in the finals against Australia by six wickets.
Travis Head was the player of the match as he scored a match-winning century against India to help them chase down the target of 241 runs and secure their sixth World Cup title, the most by a single nation in the tournament’s history.

Virat Kohli managed to finish off the campaign setting a new record for the most runs scored in a single World Cup campaign with a total of 765 runs in 11 games. Mohammed Shami also finished as the Golden Ball winner with a tally of 24 wickets in just seven games in the tournament.
Team India will now look ahead as they are to compete against Australia in the five-match T20 series which takes place at home as well. This will be followed by a tour of South Africa as well.
