10-year-old girl killed by stepmother for refusing to cook food

A 10-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her mentally unstable stepmother for not cooking food, police said on Tuesday.

Deepshikha was killed by her 50-year-old stepmother Kamlesh in Nanglasheikh village of Meerut district on Monday.

According to police, Kamlesh had asked Deepshikha to prepare food in the morning, which the girl did not. This enraged Kamlesh who first broke some items in the house and later strangulated the girl with her 'dupatta'.

The incident came to light in the afternoon when Deepshikha’s cousin came to the house. He found Deepshikha dead on a bed and informed the family members and the villagers.

The girl’s father is already dead while her mother had left the house three years ago.
