12 applications for medical colleges: Ramdas

 The government has received as many as 12 applications seeking permission to establish new medical colleges in the state, including five from the private sector, said Medical Education Minister A Ramdas said here on Thursday.

 Six applications have come from Madikeri, Tumkur, Koppal, Chikkodi, Gadag and Chitradurga to establish government medical colleges while five memorandums were submitted by private management institutions, including four in Bangalore and one in Tumkur.

 “One more application seeking permission to open medical college from the ESI corporation will located in Gulbarga,” he said.

 The proposals would be placed before the state Cabinet for the final nod, he added.

 Also, he said that by September 30 all medical colleges should complete the admission procedure for students who have secured seats through online selection process.

 He informed that for the first time, the students who secured seats through Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) have been given an opportunity to swap seats and get transfer on mutual consent.

 “The process of mutual transfer of the first year MBBS students will take place online during September 24 to 28,” he said.

 According to him, the Medical Education Department will add a 20-bed ward in all teaching colleges in the state to especially treat the malnourished patients.

 In future, patient visiting medical college hospitals will have the opportunity to choose the type of medicine, including allopathy, homeopathy and ayurveda
