Two foreign nationals, who arrived here from abroad have tested positive for Omicron variant, a health official said on Wednesday. The first person is a 24-year-old woman, a Kenyan national, who landed at the international airport here on December 12, Telangana Director of Public Health, G Srinivasa Rao told reporters here. The other is a 23-year-old man from Somalia. Both are asymptomatic, he said.
The two persons were diagnosed with Omicron infection during genome sequencing. In an attempt to allay fears, Rao said that symptoms in the patients are mild but also advised people to wear masks and follow Covid protocols. The government is alert and people should be cautious too, he added.
Rao also said that one person was found at Tolichowki and another at a nearby Paramount colony area, and were later shifted to TIMS in Gachibowli for treatment. “We took samples from those who were closely associated with the two Omicron infected persons,” he said.
Giving details, Rao said that the person from Somalia had come to India for the treatment of his father, whose samples have been sent for genome sequencing. They visited some hospitals in the city and officials are looking for those who came in close contact with them.
Rao also said that a 7-year-old boy, who tested positive for Omicron, came to Shamshabad Airport and left for West Bengal without entering the city. He said there is no truth in the news that an Omicron patient ran away from a city hospital. He further informed that 97 percent of the people in the state have been administered the first dose.
