BANGALORE: Alumni of only three engineering colleges in the state seem to command a good salary over a period of time in an analysis undertaken by a private firm.As usual, the top spots go to institutes such as Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and National Institute of Technology (NIT).Silicon India, a private firm, released the rating of colleges based on the salary of institutes’ alumni. But only the average earnings over a decade is taken into account following observations that the salary of students from good engineering colleges who get a good pay package when they leave colleges gets evened out over a few years. Then the salary becomes on par with students from other engineering colleges.Hence, the parameter to rate the institute becomes the CTC of a graduate after five years of work experience. The average salary of an Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur alumni is `15.48 lakh annually and the institute easily tops the list; all IITs follow suit with a marginal difference in salary. The National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Suratkal (NITK), comes at 14th place with an annual salary of `11.79 lakh, while the PES Institute of technology, Bangalore, comes in at 26th place with an annual salary of `8.49 lakh.In a press release, Silicon India stated that the a perceptual study was conducted among HR managers, recruitment firms and job boards. Also, over 3,000 engineers who graduated in the year 2005 and did not pursue any their course were interviewed across the six metros-Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai
