4 child labourers rescued

MANGALORE:  Four child labourers engaged in a bag manufacturing company at Baikampady Industrial Area were rescued in a raid conducted by senior labour inspectors on Tuesday.Acting on a tip-off from Akhila Bharatha Karmika Sangha (ABKS), senior labour inspectors raided Sri Chakra Containers Private Limited and rescued child labourers identified as Moti Kumar, Ganga Ram Kumar, Sajal Kumar and Rohith Kumar from Bihar.Senior Labour Inspectors, including Sathyanarayan, Jnanesh, Despande from the Labour Department and members of ABKS were participated in the raid. When contacted, senior labour inspector Sathyan-arayan said the ABKS had shared information about eight child labourers being engaged by the company. But during the raid, only four children were found engaged in the factory. The rescued children seemed below 14 years because neither the company nor the children were in possession of birth certificates.The rescued children were sent to the Children Welfare Committee (CWC) at Bondel.   Further action will be initiated after receiving factual date of birth certificates, Sathyanarayana clarified.The four children communicated with the officials in Hindi.
