CHENNAI: Four members of a family were killed in a road accident at Acharapakkam in Kanchipuram district early on Friday. Police said Shankar (40), an engineer who was working in Quatar, his wife Selvi (32) of Reddiarpettai, Cuddalore district, Shankar’s co-brother Arul Oli and his wife Vasuki (35) were killed after the car in which they were travelling, rammed into a stationary lorry near Thozhupedu toll plaza near Acharapakkam. Shankar had flown down from Quatar and the others had arrived at the Chennai airport on Thursday night to pick him up and were returning home when the accident happened. Police said Shankar’s children Mugilan (12) and Narmada (7), who were injured, were admitted to the Chengalpet hospital.Chengalpet Municipal Vice-Chief MurderedThe DMK vice-chairman of Chengalpet municipality was hacked to death by an unidentified armed gang at Chengalpet on Friday.Ravi Prakash (32), a resident of Periya Natham, was at his friend’s house when an armed gang barged in and hacked him to death.  Ravi Prakash was involved in two murder cases, including that of Kumar alias Kurangu Kumar, an AIADMK functionary and former vice-chairman of Chengalpet municipality in 2007, and the murder of another man Adiraja. On Friday, the man had come home when a gang barged into his house and slit his throat, police said. Women Tricked, Jewellery StolenGold jewellery has been stolen from two women after diverting their attention in Velachery area . In Vijaya Nagar, 64-year-old Padmavathy was walking back home on Thursday when she was stopped by two persons on a bike, who warned that she should keep her jewellery safely as it could be stolen. She then removed her jewellery, which was five and a half sovereigns. The duo helped her pack the jewellery in a piece of paper. When she unwrapped the paper later, she found stones in it.  In a similar incident near Ashtalakshmi Nagar, 59-year-old Jayalakshmi lost her jewes weighing six sovereigns.
