60-year-old Bengal Man Pursues Engineering From Private College After Retirement
The man handles all the household chores and takes care of his mother, while focusing on studies.

A man from Madhyamgram of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal has decided to fulfil his dream by enrolling in an engineering college. But guess what? He is a 60-year-old retired man. Indrajit Guha retired from his decades-long job last year and is currently studying in a private engineering college for higher education. His son was also a student once in the same college. Indrajit attends college regularly with other students. He lost his wife in Covid-19. Indrajit’s family consists of his son and 82-year-old mother. His son has started a job at a private company after getting a placement from the college. The roles are reversed now. His son now earns for the house, while his father attends college. Indrajit handles all the household chores and takes care of his mother, while focusing on college studies.

Indrajit Guha completed a BSc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Diploma in Civil Engineering from Murshidabad Institute of Technology in 1989. He got his first job in 1991. Initially, he worked in a private construction company. Later he joined a research project of DRDO for some time. After this, Indrajit Guha passed the exams at Calcutta University and joined the Central Library as a Junior Assistant. He didn’t comfort himself with the job of a Junior Assistant at the Central Library. He again sat for the exam for the role of Technical Assistant and joined Rajabazar Science College at the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics. He got the job of Technical Assistant in 1997. He retired from the post of superintendent technician after a long career. His retirement took place on August 21, 2023.

After retirement, he sat for JEE and secured admission to a private engineering college. There will be a total of six semesters in the course. It will have a duration of three years. Indrajit Guha also wishes to pursue higher education after graduation, if he stays fit.

“This decision came from the desire to learn,” said Indrajit Guha. Now, the retired technician is spending his time with books and by taking care of his family.
