83 countries to compete at the Oscars for best foreign language film
Geetu Mohandas' film 'Liar's Dice' is representing India at the Academy Awards this year.

Los Angeles: A record 83 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 87th Academy Awards with Geetu Mohandas' 'Liar's Dice' representing India.

Last year 76 films were submitted in the category, which has four new entrants --Kosovo with 'Three Windows and a Hanging', Mauritania 'Timbuktu', Panama 'Invasion' and Malta with Rebecca Cremona's 'Malta'.

Some of the films that have already impressed the critics and won awards include Nuri Bilge Ceylan's 'Winter Sleep' from Turkey which won Palm d'Or, 'Leviathan' from Russia and 'Mommy' from Canada.

Marion Cotillard starrer and the Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne-directed 'Two Days, One Night' is Belgium's entry, Afghanistan has submitted 'A Few Cubic Meters of Love' by Jamshid Mahmoudi, Argentina 'Wild Tales' by Damián Szifrón, Bangladesh 'Glow of the Firefly' by Khalid Mahmood Mithu. Bosnia and Herzegovina have entered 'With Mom' by Faruk Loncarevic, China 'The Nightingale' by Philippe Muyl, Egypt 'Factory Girl' by Mohamed Khan.

'Today' by Reza Mirkarimi is Iran's entry, Iraq's 'Mardan' by Batin Ghobadi, Japan's 'The Light Shines Only There' by Mipo O and Venezuela's 'The Liberator' by Alberto Arvelo are some of the other entries.

The 87th Academy Awards will be held on February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
