A splash of nostalgia
A splash of nostalgia

A nostalgic journey into one’s past, filled with the colours of nature and warmth. That’s what artist Sunil Linus De showcases through his gorgeous water colour paintings, that are a fine blend of colours and shadings.

The splendid array in his third series of the ‘Living Room’ collection is a representation of deep seated memories from the psyche of Kerala. He successfully portrays the simplicity of village life and arouses the viewer’s innate affinity towards nature. “This is my attempt to recreate the various scenes that most of us may have experienced in our past and might never see again in the future” says the artist. The delicate beauty of our villages, the picturesque water-centric scenes along with the lush greenery of Kerala are brought alive through a play of light and colours.

The inspiration for these paintings were derived from the scenic landscapes of Mundakkayam, the artist’s native place, and from an amalgam of various photographs. The precision with which the artist has portrayed his work is evident from the manner in which he has blended various colours in accordance with the time variations of a day. This feature of his work is depicted in his use of the colours green, blue and yellow. The use of shadows adds to the beauty of the paintings. The fact that water-colour paintings are rare and easy to relate to, makes this exhibition more exquisite. His paintings, ‘The mist waits to hug the morning’, ‘An entrance to the past’ and ‘They are sailing to the shore of life’ are some of the most striking works of the artist.

‘Art for the people’ is how Sunil prefers to describe his latest collection. He aims at creating a comprehensible and positive living room ambience through his paintings. A passionate painter who is an advertising graduate from Ravi Varma college of Fine Arts, has proved his mettle as a painter for the past twenty-two years. The exhibition was inaugurated by Chev Dr Mohan Thomas and Bose Krishnamachari. Sunil Linus De celebrated the inauguration of his work on Monday in the presence of friends, well-wishers, artists and social workers. The exhibition in Durbar Hall ground will be on till August 26.
