AIMPLB Asks Muslims to Seek Approval For Loudspeaker Use; Sadhus Want UP Govt to Reconsider Order
After being pulled up by the Allahabad HC over noise pollution, the UP government on Sunday issued detailed directives on the use of permanently installed loudspeakers at public places.

Lucknow: Top Muslim cleric and executive member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, on Monday issued an appeal to the Muslims in Uttar Pradesh on social media and asked them not to panic and take permission from concerned authorities in case they want to use loudspeakers.

After being pulled up by the HC over noise pollution, the UP government on Sunday issued detailed directives on the use of permanently installed loudspeakers at public places.

The government has also directed action against the authorities who fail to ensure compliance.

In a two-minute video posted on Facebook, Maulana Khalid Rasheed said: “The current order by the government on use of loudspeakers is for all the religions and also for marriage and other functions, including its use at religious places. People, who are responsible for mosques, should take proper permission before 15th January 2018 as ordered by the Government.”

“The current order comes in the wake of noise pollution, which is a big concern today and everybody’s health is affected. If such an order can curb noise pollution then we all should follow it and abide by government’s order. It is now our responsibility to take permission from concerned authorities and contribute towards the society,” he added.

Post Yogi government's order and guidelines on loudspeakers, people, on Facebook and WhatsApp, are forwarding the pictures of prescribed performa which is to be used to take permission. Also, appeals are being made from Muslim scholars on social media platforms not to panic and take required permission.

Meanwhile, Sadhus have registered their dissent over directives on loudspeaker use and have appealed to the government to reconsider their order regarding the same. Speaking to News18 at Magh Mela, in Allahabad, Swami Visheshwara Nand said: “We respect the High Court and order of the court is supreme. But order regarding the use of loudspeakers at religious places should be considered once more.”

After being pulled up by the HC over noise pollution, the UP government on Sunday issued detailed directives on the use of permanently installed loudspeakers at public places. The HC in December 2017 had asked the UP government whether the loudspeakers or public address systems installed at mosques, temples, churches, gurudwaras etc. were installed after obtaining a written permission from the authorities concerned.

The Yogi Adityanath government has set a deadline of January 15 to obtain permission from authorities on loudspeaker usage.
