Ammas mango treat for school children

CHENNAI: School children of Tamil Nadu covered under the Noon Meal Programme may soon enjoy  mango milk shake going by the announ-cement made by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the District Collectors Conference here on Monday.“To help horticulture far-mers of Krishnagiri, Aavin will examine purchasing of excess mangoes and processing them as mango milk sha-ke for supply to Noon Meal Centres,” Jayalalithaa said.On November 9, the New Indian Express published an article about the huge loses mango cultivators and pulp manufacturers in Tamil Na-du are facing due to the sharp decline in demand for mango from gulf countries, owing to the political instability after Arab uprisings, and fluctuations in prices at the local market. Mango cultivators and pulp manufacturers in the State said more than 60 per cent of their produce are lying in the godowns as importers have not turned up.With this announcement, the CM has come to their rescue.
