HYDERABAD: Toughening its stand against the striking employees, the state government on Thursday issued orders to the heads of government departments not to forward the September salaries of employees who are participating in the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme. But mindless of the government threats, more sections of people from the region are joining the strikers. The Telangana Medical JAC served their strike notice declaring that all services except emergency services will be stalled in Telangana region from Friday.
During a meeting with higher officials, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the authorities to ensure that salaries for employees who are attending to their duties should be paid promptly without any delay. However, sources said that the chief minister wanted officials to take a tough stand against striking employees and implement the 'No workNo pay' rule. But though the employees launched the strike from September 14, it was reportedly decided not to release salaries immediately in an attempt to exert pressure on the employees to call off their strike. The government has also brought the NTPC under the essential services to prevent its employees from joining the strike. The government, which is sinking in a power crisis, purchased about 1,500 MW power from neighbouring states to meet the power deficit of 12 million units on Thursday. Mounting pressure on the government for delivering separate Telangana state, doctors in Telangana region suspended all medical services except for emergency services from Thursday. Though the Telangana Medical JAC served the strike notice and asked its members not to attend any services from Friday, medical staff at major government hospitals in Hyderabad, Karimnagar and Warangal have already joined the stir and boycotted outpatient services. It has declared that they would not even attend family planning operations and other such surgeries during the strike period.
