CHENNAI: For residents of an apartment at Kilpauk, Sunday was Anna Hazare day. Around 100 of them assembled at a spot and raised slogans in support of the Jan Lokpal bill.Senior citizens of the Deva Darshan apartment attired in khadi and sporting a Gandhi cap - which had the words ‘I am Anna Hazare’ on it - led the march. Children and women followed, raising slogans supporting Hazare.Kids distributed pamphlets that read, “The Government has tabled a dubious Lokpal bill, which protects the corrupt and punishes the whistleblowers.”Shreya, one of the children waving the Tricolour, joined in with the other kids saying, “We will fight corruption.”Vimal L Shah, Vice President of Dev Darshan Flat Owners’ Association, said, “North Indians businessmen here generally stay away from any vocal protest. But Hazare’s fight against graft has inspired us to support him.”Bhawanesh Deora, a volunteer of India Against Corruption, told protestors that they should ask residents of nearby apartments to join the stir. He also urged them to carry a National Flag with them even when they step out to visit the market. However, police were not amused. They filed a case against Shah for organising the protest without seeking permission.Elsewhere in the city, about 150 residents of Nest Apartments, Teynampet took out a candlelight rally in support of the cause.
