An Army jawan and a villager were injured in firing and shelling by Pakistani troops who continued to target civilian and forward areas along LoC.

Jammu: An Army jawan and a villager were injured on Friday in firing and shelling by Pakistani troops who continued to target civilian and forward areas along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir for the fourth consecutive day.

Pakistan troops violated ceasefire thrice in the last 12 hours along LoC in Poonch.

Pakistani troops fired mortar bombs and used automatic weapons to target forward posts along LoC in Balakote sector of Poonch district around 0600 hours on Friday morning, Defence Spokesman said.

They fired 120 mm, 82 mm mortars, Rocket Projectile Grenades (RPGs) and automatic weapons along LoC, he said. "One Army jawan was injured and has been hospitalised," the spokesman said.

In the Pakistani shelling, a civilian Mohmmad Ashraf (24) was also injured and some cattle were killed in Behrooti village, police said, adding the youth has been hospitalised. The Defence spokesman said the Indian troops retaliated appropriately to the Pakistani firing.

Earlier, Pakistan troops violated ceasefire twice during the night and resorted to mortar shelling and firing on military posts and civilians areas along LoC in Hamirpur and Mendhar sectors of Poonch district 0200 hous on Friday, the spokesman said.

Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire 25 times in September this year. This is fourth day of ceasefire violation by Pakistan along LoC in Poonch since September 15.

On September 16, Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire thrice in Krishnagati and Balakote sectors of Poonch district.

Pakistani troops used 120 mm and 82 mm mortar bombs apart from automatic weapons to target Forward areas and civilian villages along LoC in Poonch district yesterday.

On September 15, Pak fired from automatic weapons on forward posts along the LoC in Balakote sector from 1820 hours to 2100 hours without any causality.

On Sunday, BSF officer ASI Sohan was killed in shelling when Pakistan targeted their post in Manjakotr sector along LoC in Rajouri district.
