New Delhi: The Army’s Kashmir Super 40 initiative for coaching the Jammu and Kashmir youth for engineering entrance exams broke all previous records with 26 boys and two Girls from the state cracking IIT-JEE Mains, 2017.
With a success rate of 78%, Kashmir Super 40 is now at par with the best IIT coaching centres in the country.
These include nine from south Kashmir, 10 from North Kashmir, seven from Kargil / Ladakh and two from the Jammu region. This was the first batch with five girls from the Kashmir valley who were coached at Delhi, out of which two have qualified.
Despite the numerous challenges, caused by the internal disturbances in the Valley post July 2016, the coaching process was undertaken as per the stipulated schedule by the Army.
Under this flagship scheme, candidates are selected by the Army through an entrance test and then interviews at various colleges throughout the state from April to May. Coaching and stay is free for the students and is sponsored under CSR initiative by Petronet LNG.
Following this success, the Army has further upgraded the coaching programme to 50 students which will include five girls.
