THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the Embassy of France in India is presenting ‘The Sacred Grove - Trees of Vrindavan’, an exhibition of creative expressions of textile artist and designer Medha Bhatt Ganguly, from August 20 to September 3.The exhibition will be inaugurated by Dr George Onakkoor at 10.30 am on August 20 at the art gallery, Alliance Française de Trivandrum, followed by a presentation by the artist, who would explain the process of her art, her inspiration, her experiences with rural crafts and stories that gave birth to her creations."One essential feature of her works is the reuse of fabric and paper discards, that send an aesthetic message of concern for our environment,’’ the AFT said in a statement.The exhibition features cloth hangings and collages depicting trees of Vrindavan patterned from fabric and paper discards using techniques of applique, embroidery and embellishment. This collection of textile art is inspired from music, paintings and literary works related to the myth of Krishna.Medha Bhatt Ganguly, an alumnus of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, is a textile designer, craft researcher and field practitioner. She has worked with non-governmental organisations and government agencies for the uplift of artisans and their indigenous crafts. She has special interests in issues related to women’s empowerment and developing innovative green solutions towards ‘zero waste’.
