Vajpayee has suggested patience and advised against any hurried attempt to make peace with Pakistan.

New Delhi: Once-bitten-twice-shy, senior BJP leader and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday suggested patience and advised against any hurried attempt to make peace with Pakistan.

He said he is in favour of the continued peace process but it should not be hurried through.

Vajpayee made this point when Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri called on him at his residence on Thursday morning. Former foreign minister Yashwant Sinha and former national security advisor Brajesh Mishra were also present in the

meeting.

During a 45-minute meeting between the two, the former prime minister pointed out that Pakistan had not kept its January 2004 assurance of not allowing its territory for terrorist acts.

Kasuri, who complimented Vajpayee for initiating the peace process between the two neighbours, however affirmed that Pakistan was also a 'victim of terrorist activities' where frequent attacks were taking place.

Vajpayee told the Pakistani Foreign Minister that it was not an individual decision but a step taken after taking the people and Parliament into confidence.
