KOCHI: The Bamboo Fest will be a boost to the traditional industries of the State. Though we have made a lot of advancements in many fields, it is our duty to preserve its charm, said Ports and Excise Minister K Babu.He was inaugurating the Bamboo Fest, 2011 at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor. The fest is being conducted under the aegis of State Industries Department, Kerala Bamboo Mission and Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-bip). The aim of the fest is to develop the handicrafts in the State.Cultures of different states at one place is the major feature of the fest. The minister said that the bamboo exhibition since 2004 has acquired a status as it is becoming a major boost to the economy of the State. Kerala, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Tripura, West Bengal, Mizoram, Assam and Jharkhand are participating in the fest.Apart from the products, the machinery used for creating these products are also displayed in the exhibition.The other major attraction of the exhibition is the embellishing products and ornaments from Wayanad which has a price ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 300. To celebrate Christmas and New year, beautiful greeting cards are also available here. The objective of the fest is to make today’s consumer society well aware of the charm and utility of natural products.Mayor Tony Chammani presided over the inaugural function. Hibi Eden MLA, Chattisgarh Bamboo Development Authority Mission Director Divakar Mishra, Assam Divisional Forest Officer Dilip Das, District Industries Centre general manager B Sivaprasad, State Industries Department director T O Sooraj and K- bip CEO V Rajagopal spoke.
