Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday refrained itself from taking any decision on whether women should be allowed into the sanctum sanctorum of the Haji Ali Dargah or not.
While hearing the petition challenging the ban on entry of women, the division bench of the High Court observed that "today the atmosphere is such that everything is taken in another way. This is an era of intolerance. When it comes to religious matters, people become very sensitive".
In the course of hearing the petition challenging the ban on entry of women into the sanctum sanctorum of the Haji Ali Dargah, the Bombay HC (division bench) observed that "today the atmosphere is such that everything is taken in another way. Earlier, the court has asked the trustees of Haji Ali Dargah – which houses the tomb of the 15th century Sufi saint Haji Ali - to resolve the dispute over the ban of women into its inner sanctum and reconsider its rules. Then the trustees had a meeting and told the court that based on its meeting on the issue it was decided that ban should stay.
The matter will come up for the next hearing on December 15, 2015.
