New Delhi: While everyone was extending their support for Anna Hazare, the mostly, very active and articulate about social issues, author Chetan Bhagat came up with his own campaign against corruption "Mera Neta Chor Hai." The noted popular author posted his idea on his blog. "To aid in spreading this, I’d like you to write something on your forearm, and display it wherever you go. Using a pen, write in thick lettering, 'Mera Neta Chor Hai' and wear it everywhere," he posted.
He claims, he came up with the idea came from the famous Bollywood film 'Deewar'. In no time it went viral on the Internet and many posted photos with "Mera Neta Chor Hai" written on their hands, thanks to his 316,660 followers on Twitter.
Of course the campaign wasn't limited to netizens, he insisted on making it more popular by urging everybody to wear it everywhere - to college, office, shopping malls and buses.
Very strong emotions were inducted in Bhagat's post, "The evil empire of corrupt politicians that have somehow taken charge of this otherwise great nation."
So it did catch a lot of attention, and a lot of people joined the "movement" started by Bhagat. An enormous support for the passing of the proposed Lokpal Bill came in.
And after Hazare ended his fast after 98 hours, Bhagat posted, "Since the government has agreed to the bill, the ‘Mera Neta Chor Hai’ campaign also ends. I can’t thank you guys enough for your support. Together, we will make a better India, one step at a time."
Yes, there are several issues which need to be addressed but is this how now we now bring in change? Is Internet the only driving force left for mobilising?
All said and and done, ‘Mera Neta Chor Hai’ worked well for our Twitteratis!
