THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A major fire which broke out near a school located at the city centre created tension on Monday. The fire broke out in two thatched sheds situated in a property adjacent to the Jawahar Public School at Ambujavilasom road near Vanchiyoor. According to sources, the fire broke out around 11 a.m during the class hours. The fire is suspected to have spread from a pile of garbage that was put to flames gutted the two sheds made of thatched palm leaves. Fire and Rescue personnel who rushed to the spot quickly brought the fire under control. It took three units of fire fighters from Chenkalchoola Fire and Rescue Station to put out the fire. 'Timely action by the fire fighters helped to avert major danger as the fire could have easily spread to the school nearby and also the adjacent houses, which too had thatched roofs. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the fire even though there were people nearby, said the sources.
