Patna: A cheque issued by the Bihar government to a family of a CRPF man killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma has allegedly bounced.
CRPF Jawan Ranjeet kumar, a resident of Sheikhpura district, was among six from Bihar who were killed in the Sukma ambush on April 24.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced compensation of Rs 5lakh to each of the bereaved family.
Indradeo Yadav, father of Ranjeet, submitted the cheque issued in favour of her daughter in law Sunita Devi in a HDFC Bank branch for clearance. But the cheque bounced.
When contacted branch manager of the HDFC Bank cited technical reasons for this unfortunate incident.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has lashed out at chief minister Nitish for treating a martyr's family in such a way. "This is not the first time such thing has happened in Nitish tenure. Their ministers and leaders have been making inappropriate comments about our soldiers. Now today I am hearing this news of cheque bounce. His family needs support not such treatment", BJP spokesperson Sanjay Tiger said.
On the other hand, the ruling Janta Dal (United) turned the blame on the bank officials. JD (U) leader Neeraj Kumar informed that the government had directed district magistrate of Sheikhpura to probe into the matter.
