Saharsa (Bihar): Twenty-three pilgrims, including 17 women, who had gone to Kathmandu to offer prayers at the Pashupatinath temple, have not returned, prompting the Bihar government to request the Centre to take up the matter with Nepal.
Nepal is currently witnessing large-scale anti-monarchy protests.
Relatives of the pilgrims have informed the Saharsa District Magistrate K P Singh that 23 pilgrims from Baralganj village under Bihra police had boarded a bus from Bhantawari in Nepal two days before Ramnavami on April 7 but had not returned home since then.
They had last contacted their family members on phone on April 15 from Kathmandu and informed that they were running short of money. As per plan, they were to come back on April 12, the relatives claimed.
Acting on their complaint, the district magistrate wrote to the state chief secretary, home secretary and director general of police requesting them to take up the matter with the Centre to ascertain their whereabouts.
"We have already requested the External Affairs ministry to take up the matter with the Nepalese authorities to ascertain the whereabouts of the pilgrims and ensure their early an safe return," state home department sources said.
