BANGALORE: It seems trouble is intensifying within Bangalore University’s Syndicate over the ceased construction of Bangalore University’s (BU) Postgraduate Centre in Kolar. In a recent development, government order from the ministry of Higher Education directing the suspension of Registrar (Administration) R M Ranganath and Finance Officer S A Razvi has now been forwarded to Governor H R Bharadwaj. “This move was unnecessary. The ministry should have known that involving the Governor will slow down things further,” Prof K V Acharya, syndicate member, told Express. This move by the Higher Education ministry has divided the Syndicate into two warring groups. “Out of 18 Syndicate members, only 6 are united against erring Ranganath and Razvi,” he said, adding that the rest are supporting Ranganath and Razvi for vested interests. The Syndicate members will meet the Governor, forcing him to act on the order. “We will ask to form a one-man committee to execute the government order,” he said. According to the rules, a new work order has to be issued at new rates to the contractor. In this case, however, the same contractor was hired to work at an escalated rate. “This has happened without the Syndicate’s approval. We want the Registrar and Finance Officer to be removed,” said Acharya. The construction work on BU’s Kolar Postgraduate Centre was stalled in August following a complaint by the Syndicate to the government. “Things are getting murkier by the day and we are losing interest in all this,” said Acharya.
