THOOTHUKUDI: J Jayalalithaa announced a slew of schemes for denizens of Thoothukudi during her address on Thursday. Canvassing for her party’s mayoral candidate T Sasikala Pushpa and candidates for ward councillors, she told the gathering to cast their votes for the party as they did in the assembly elections.“Though Thoothukudi Corporation has been under the DMK regime for the past five years, it has not witnessed any remarkable developments as basic facilities remain unaccomplished. Councillors were bothered about their development and forgot about the development of the people and the corporation. A golden opportunity has come again to remove them from power,” she said, urging people to cast their votes for AIADMK party candidates as “they would be with you and serve you.” She said the party winning the local body elections would solve the water problem of Thoothukudi by implementing the fourth pipeline scheme. Besides, she listed an array of projects, including an integrated new bus stand, subways at first and second railway gates, a railway over-bridge at fourth gate, extension of underground drainage system and an over-bridge at VVD signal.
