KOCHI: The CBI on Tuesday submitted before the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court that there was no evidence against IG Muhammed Yasin and SP Vijay Sakhare, who had been implicated in the custodial death of Sampath, the prime accused in the Puthoor Sheela murder case.There is no evidence which shows involvement of the officers in the torture of Sampath in custody. Mohammad Yasin’s visit to the riverside cottage where Sampath was allegedly tortured to death has not been established yet. The statements of Kanakaraj and Manikandan in this regard are not credible. If found guilty, the CBI will take action irrespective of their ranks, the agency submitted before the court. The CBI made the submission during the hearing on a plea filed by Murukesh, brother of Sampath, seeking explanation for the delay in arresting the top police officials involved in the case. The plea was filed challenging the CBI decision not to arrest the IPS officers.The CBI has filed chargesheet against SIs P V Ramesh and T N Unnikrishnan and police officer Syama Prasad in connection with the case.
