BHAWANIPATNA: It was twin celebrations for the district. The headquarters town of Bhawanipatna witnessed Kalahandi Pratistha Divas and inaugural function of Kalahandi Utsav Ghumura on Tuesday.Official records say that Kalahandi, a princely state before Independence, was merged with the Indian Union on January 1, 1948 and was with Balangir district. On November 1, 1948, Kalahandi acquired the status of a district. To commemorate the occasion, Kalahandi Pratistha Divas has since been organised every year. This time, a seminar on the topic, ‘Kalahandi - The Spring of Culture’ was organised followed by multifarious cultural programmes. The inaugural function of Kalahandi Utsav was also organised with much fanfare. Logo of the Kalahandi Utsav Ghumura was unveiled on the occasion. Final function of the Utsav will be held from January 14 to 17 after the panchayat and block level festivals. Besides cultural programmes, Krushak Mela and Handloom and Village Industry Mela will be organised, sources said. The celebration was presided over by Kalahandi Collector Dukhishayam Satpathy. The ADM, the DRDA project director and the SP attended.
