Increasing number of chain snatching cases by biker gangs in twin cities of Hyderabad and Cyberabad have terrified women to the extent that they fear stepping out of their homes.
Concerned over the incidents, Cyberabad police has formed 55 anti-snatching teams and they are getting training from professional bikers to nab the culprits. The professional bikers are teaching the police how to chase down chain snatchers, giving them lessons on speeding through traffic and the bylanes of the city.
These teams have been deployed at various hotspots across the cities. "These teams will move around like chain snatchers on bikes and keep a watch around hot spots so that offenders can be easily intercepted," CP Cyberabad, CV Anand said.
Many victims have also suffered grievous head injuries due to these incidents. Even as the number of cases reported have halved in the last one year, the police is taking all measures to curb the menace.
While enhancing racing skills will definitely help in better policing, but as most of the chain snatching incidents are reported to police after the crime is committed, it remains to be seen how helpful this drive will be in catching chain snatchers.
