BANGALORE: The influence of the new comers in the BJP - who have not gone through the cultural and ideological orientation - was evident at the Bangalore International Airport on Monday evening when Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who arrived from Delhi after winning the battle against Governor and Opposition parties, was given a rousing welcome by about 3,000 party workers.
Hundreds of party workers danced to the beating of drums, while holding placards of Yeddyurappa and Housing Minister V Somanna. Though it looked like the show of the newcomers, there was some "old and original BJP" show of enthusiasm by the followers of Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath, an RSS product, when he made them to shout Bharatmata Ki Jai, Vande Mataram and BJP
zindabad.
Dressed in his trademark white safari and with a huge tilak on his forehead, Yeddyurappa opened the door of his car and stood for a while, in all smiles, showing thevictory sign.
Way back in February 1988 when Yeddyurappa took over as the BJP state president, his supporters had coined the slogan " Yeddyurappa Gudugiddare Vidhana Soudha Naduguvudhu" (If Yeddyurappa roars, Vidhana Soudha trembles). After driving till Byatarayanapura, Yeddyurappa was taken in an open jeep till the party office in Malleshwaram where en route he was given a tumultuous welcome by thousands of party workers at Hebbal, Gangenahalli, Sadashivanagar and Malleshwaram.
