Chennai: In a gruesome incident, a seven-year-old boy was offered as human sacrifice on the advice of a self-proclaimed godman in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu recently, police said on Sunday.
Four persons, including the godman and a couple, were arrested on Saturday in connection with death of the boy and all of them have been remanded to 15 days in judicial custody.
Police said the accused Rajavel and his wife Vasanthi of Arsardi Kuppam village were unable to marry off their five sons and had been consulting godman, Kathiresan, for this.
the couple found a human skull at the site where they were building a house and told this to Kathiresan.
He advised that marriages were getting cancelled due to some evil spirits and a human sacrifice has to be performed.
When the couple returned after consultations with the godman, they saw the seven-year-old boy, Satish, son of their neighbour, watching television at their house on May 13.
They enticed him and put him in a huge steel trunk, which was carried to the local Ayyanar temple.
The godman, the couple and one of their sons strangulated him in the temple and his blood was sprinkled at Rajavel's house.
In the meantime, the parents of Satish lodged a complaint about their missing son with the police.
The villagers spotted his body near the temple next morning. With lot of difficulties, police found out the links between the family and the godman and arrested Kathiresan, Rajavel, Vasanthi and their son.
