HYDERABAD: All cash awards promised to national and international medal winners from the state will be presented soon, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has announced. Reddy agreed to present the awards to sportspersons, who brought glory to the state, at a function to be held shortly. The pending awards amount to about `4 crore.The chief minister, while reviewing the activities of the sports and youth services, sanctioned construction of mini stadia/complexes in every mandal headquarters and asked the department to write to the district collectors concerned to identify suitable land to the extent of 5 to 7.5 acres for such mini stadia. These mini stadia complexes should have all facilities for main indoor games such as tennis, tenni-coit, ball badminton, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, kho-kho courts, three-step galleries, changing rooms, toilets, gym and a running track.The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh has started construction of mini/indoor stadia at 41 mandal headquarters but could not complete them due to paucity of funds. The chief minister agreed to provide additional funds for completion of the stadia. He also agreed to the proposal to have full strength in the sports schools such as Andhra Pradesh Sports School at Hakimpet near Hyderabad, Regional Sports Schools at Kadapa and Karimnagar, Regional Sports Hostels at Guntur, Tirupati and Warangal, and eight Sports Academies and the Centre for Excellence for Volleyball in Hyderabad.
